There was this particular fear that used to grip me tight whenever I bought clothes for myself as a teenager. More acutely if the fitting was immaculate because then I was totally in love with the dress. Following which I, quite compulsively, remained nervous wondering what would I do if I over-grew it at some point of time? If its worth was lost after repeated washing? Worse, if I felt a sudden urge to or perhaps had to discard it in the future? Gosh, it was some tension!
Till of course I bought another set of perfect fitting clothes which coaxed me to fall in love with it (and I did!) invariably bringing forth the same fear. Though it also severed from me whatever I felt for my earlier clothes.
The point is, I learnt, Life is about moving on be it one’s clothes or relationships. And there’s nothing like ‘this is it’ in life. Everything has a substitute.
Only, you need to come across it.

TRUE!!! no matter what happens we have to get going with it whether we like it or not...
Yes dear!!
everything is in our mind, its "us" who make someone for "us" special..and when that someone for some unfortunate reason loses his or her worth,we gotta accept it first and then continue our search..
like a good dress,we feel for those ones with whom we fit-in, feel in sync, and when we do find the perfect match,we stop looking for the substitute..
Yup, right.. :)
But u r d only person who asserts dat true love really does exist,if it does den shouldn't one try to win love back rather dan mov'g on?n lso drz a diff if itz clothes or a human be'g on other end...m really confused as to does true love really exist or nt?
Win love back?? That happens in movies for characters go through their life in two or three hours..in reality we don't don't do that..And true love isn't any physical entity that I'll say it exists...people discover it in their own way like faith..and what they do after that is their own decision really..
totally agreed...!!!it takes one discordant person to break a bond the two of them shared, and then...the other one who is left broken needs to move on...the one who loves you truly will not make u regret, sad and hopeless bout anything...it takes two to tango and to build a relationship...!!neel,thanks for being real in uor previous comment and for not promoting cliches...
Good one...
everything has a substitute... well almost... :)
Well almost :P
;)
good 1...agreed
Quite liked the way you linked the two together. Though I'd agree with the moving on part; but then, not everything has a substitute, at least not every relationship. Each relation(ship) is different and unique. Though you might find another one that kind of makes up for the other, there is always a void and feelings like 'if only' or 'what it'.
Right, everything has a substitute, and no gap is ever left unfilled. But like the healing of a deep wound, it leaves a scar behind. So your first everything is that much more special, and anything that is a substitute, a filler, has the 'firstness' missing. And I guess, we all have many 'scars' to show for it.
Gargi, thanks! :)
Neha, 'you just need to come across it' :)) Thanks!
Anonymous, so true!! thank you :)
Agreed 110%.
The process of moving on should be embraced by everyone. It indeed is a tough decision. One of the toughest, I must say, but without doing that no human can ever come out of that shell which caused much or little damage either physically or mentally.
Once again, Novo has shared with us a Novosperb thought!
Thanks Lebnox :))
U r absolutely r8.
Thanks!
i 2 agree to d fact dt pepl in a way or odr hv to muv on.....though evry relasnsp dsnt n cnt hv a substitute, rather moving on in a relasnsp is jst a kinda compromise...btw feelngs 4 sm1 donot desrv 2 b cmpard wid feelngs we get 4 our mere new clothes..
Prerna, thanks!
Guess, you took the post a bit too literally.. :)
Hi, neel
I think this might help me. I just had a break up and i cant move on, infact i dont want to move on, i refuse to. but nothing helps, neither sticking to it nor the thought of moving on.
But you found a really nice way to explain it.. so easily u explained, i really liked it... its like "take it easy, babe".. super cool..
Am happy to be of some help Swati :) And thanks for your comment..
What if it's very very difficult to move on?
Of course its difficult..and you got to devise your own way out ... best wishes :)
Very True..."THIS IS IT" has nothing to do with our real lives..!!
Why is it that whenever I visit your blog with any situation in hand I do find a writeup related to that... Sometime I agree to it and sometime I don't... This time I don't know what to say...
Anyways all the best... you are an amazing writer...
Hey one question... Suppose we like a piece of cloth very much and we know that piece can remain with us forever(suppose) but after some time we stop liking a packet in which it is wrapped... In that case should this cloth piece be left altogether and move on to find another piece of cloth whose wrapping too is palatable to eyes???
I think this question don't make much sense but maybe you could think over it in a way you think about several things...
Gaurav, thanks for coming back..agreement or otherwise is subjective so never mind..
And for your question, its confusing..if you don't like the 'packet' why would you change the 'cloth'?? Or is it that the 'packet' is an excuse for you to change the 'cloth'??
I hope not.
Thanks... I think I got the answer...
Agreed, even i've moved on but why even after 4 years of moving on i still want to meet her once..... JUST ONCE....
sometyms its too difficult... sumtyms its lyk, jus one more chnce to make him realize wat i still feel for him... but den if u say, everything has a substitute... .. den may b some day i hope i will move on too...
